FERIA, EQUITA’S MAJOR SHOW IN 2023!

24 October 2023

ANDALUSIAN, CAMARGUE AND GYPSY CULTURES WILL COME TOGETHER IN LYON!
There will be a very exciting atmosphere in the ring at Longines Equita Lyon and in the hearts of the public at Lyon-Eurexpo from 1 to 5 November!

AN EQUESTRIAN JOURNEY FROM SEVILLE TO MARSEILLE!
Through the numbers performed in particular by Denis Marques and his company, the Andalusian tradition will be more alive than ever in the big ring. The rider, who is the artistic director of the Alma Vaquera Andalusian equestrian ballet, will be performing a spectacular number with burning Garrocha poles, as well as the traditional carousel of flamenco dancers sitting on the horses’ hindquarters. Every year in the south of Spain, the vaqueros take their beautiful dancers through the town. The flamenco dancers dress up in their finest attire for the occasion and the whole town celebrates!
Villages in France also celebrate local equestrian art and age-old traditions, in the Camargue, in Gard and in Hérault. In Lyon, Benoît Soumille and the Caval Show troupe will be showcasing the work and living heritage of the herdsmen through different numbers, including the breathtaking horse-to-horse jump (the rider goes from one horse to the next in a frenzied canter) or by re-enacting a roussataïo, a parade of mares and their foals through the town.
Thierry Pellegrin and his famous equestrian theater Camarkas, well known to lovers of the Camargue and its capital, Saintes-Maries-de-la-mer, present a painting with very Mediterranean accents, in which a flamenca dancer accompanies two riders and their horses. Unless it's the other way around. Because around the Big Blue, horse riding and live music are often inseparable.

THE GYPSIES HERITAGE IN LONGINES EQUITA LYON’S RING FOR THE FIRST TIME
In 2023 Equita will be showcasing an authentic equestrian concert, performed by the Gypsies Heritage. Six guitarists, a percussionist and a bassist will be in the ring among the horses and riders to honour the repertoire of their illustrious forebears, and perform their original creations. Les Gypsies Heritage, the children of Chico and the Gipsy Kings, are following in their fathers' footsteps, transporting the audience into a whirlwind of joy and celebration every time they appear on stage. These artists, who were brought up with gypsy music from an early age, will proudly perform the hits of their elders and play the classic songs of gypsy musical heritage.

Djobi, djoba, Equiti, Equita, horses and spectators will definitely be dancing during both of these evening performances of Feria!
